Board of Directors member Kirstin Ivy-Waybourne Our Board Kirstin Ivy-Waybourne Kirstin Ivy is presently serving as a high school English teacher in Keller ISD. Previously, Kirstin was a middle school special education teacher and then a dyslexia specialist. She earned a B.A. in English, graduating summa cum laude. In 2019 and 2020, Kirstin earned master’s degrees in Educational Leadership and Curriculum & Instruction from the University of North Texas, both with a 4.0 average. She is pursuing her third master’s degree in Nonprofit Administration, this time from Louisiana State University in Shreveport. While not teaching or attending school, Kirstin continues the work in development that she began while spending a year outside of the classroom working for nonprofit organizations in north Dallas. Since her return to the classroom, Kirstin’s passion for providing equitable access to education has amplified, as has her understanding of how assiduously stressors outside of school impact and compromise students’ ability to learn. She believes that empowering students through comprehensive support, employing restorative practices, and establishing a campus culture of belonging are cornerstones to achieving lasting success. Kirstin began her work in the volunteer sector in 2006 when she began working with an international mission partnership in Honduras that was founded on building committed and responsive relationships, which is a central tenet of her work today. STEM Strong Sisters exposes 5th- 8th-grade black and Hispanic girls to STEM. STEM Strong Sisters 1/52 Only 1.8% of science and engineering employees in the United States are African American women, and 2.4% are Hispanic or Latina. Application Deadline: March 15, 2026 APPLICANTS WILL BE ADDED TO A WAITING LIST POST-DEADLINE STEM Strong Sisters (SSS) is a FREE 12-month program designed to expose 5th-8th-grade black and Hispanic girls to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines and fields. Monthly Mentor Meetings: Small group gatherings where the girls engage in fun STEM activities and hear inspiring stories from women of color who have excelled in diverse STEM fields. Four of our eleven monthly meetings include tours of two local college campuses and two local STEM companies. STEM Summer Camp: Our STEM Strong Sisters participate in a five-day STEM camp where they and other campers engage with STEM professionals and acquire essential skills in robotics and coding through hands-on activities and projects. . Space is limited. Please complete the app lication above (One per student). *We currently offer our programs to students residing in Duncanville, Desoto, Cedar Hill, Grand Prairie, Arlington, and Mansfield. **Parents or legal guardians must qualify for Medicaid based on household income but are not required to receive the benefit. The current year's tax return can be submitted for proof of income eligibility if the family is not currently enrolled in Medicaid.
