Board of Directors member Jeff Ghouse Our Board Jeff Ghouse Jeff is an ardent advocate for education and public service. Jeff is from the Dallas area originally and attended the University of Texas at Dallas as well as the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. During law school and afterward as an attorney with Norton Rose Fulbright, Jeff volunteered with the Dallas Housing Crisis Clinic, Mosaic Family Services, the North Texas Food Bank, the Salvation Army, and Catholic Charities. His experiences working with underprivileged students as an attorney drove his future career in education. He left the practice of law in 2018 and worked in low-income schools until 2025 as an educator to advocate for education as a path out of poverty and to success. Jeff firmly believes in providing supports for all students to succeed regardless of their economic background. BACK

STEM Strong Sisters exposes 5th- 8th-grade black and Hispanic girls to STEM. STEM Strong Sisters 1/52 Only 1.8% of science and engineering employees in the United States are African American women, and 2.4% are Hispanic or Latina. Application Deadline: March 15, 2026 APPLICANTS WILL BE ADDED TO A WAITING LIST POST-DEADLINE STEM Strong Sisters (SSS) is a FREE 12-month program designed to expose 5th-8th-grade black and Hispanic girls to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines and fields. Monthly Mentor Meetings: Small group gatherings where the girls engage in fun STEM activities and hear inspiring stories from women of color who have excelled in diverse STEM fields. Four of our eleven monthly meetings include tours of two local college campuses and two local STEM companies. STEM Summer Camp: Our STEM Strong Sisters participate in a five-day STEM camp where they and other campers engage with STEM professionals and acquire essential skills in robotics and coding through hands-on activities and projects. . Please complete the app lication above (One per student). *We currently offer our programs to students residing in Duncanville, Desoto, Cedar Hill, Grand Prairie, Arlington, and Mansfield. **Parents or legal guardians must qualify for Medicaid based on household income but are not required to receive the benefit. Each year, we collect new backpacks for the students participating in our summer math and reading program as well as local Title I schools and organizations that serve at-risk youth. Board of Directors member Hatel Patel Our Board Hetal Patel, ASA, CPHQ Hetal Patel is an experienced Actuarial leader and author who has spent more than a decade applying predictive analytics to improving healthcare quality. She has a graduate degree from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University and is an Associate from the Society of Actuaries. While healthcare analytics and statistics have been the focus of her professional career these past few years, her true passion lies in education and equity. She has previously owned a learning center and has seen first-hand how the lack of access to quality education continues to disproportionately impact low income areas and families. As a solution oriented professional, Hetal takes pride in finding innovative ways to address existing problems. While she has spent that past few years working to improve access to quality mental health therapy, her new goal is to apply those skills into improving access to quality education. BACK

Interview of Jacy Kennedy, one of our parents who received support through our ARD Advocacy program. Parent Interview: Jacy Kennedy Why did you need Special Education Advocacy? I was feeling extremely overwhelmed with the whole ARD process. There was a lot of information I was missing. Didn’t have what I needed to guide my son in the right direction. How do I speak to the people at school? There were so many things. Rondi informed me of things I didn't even know I needed to know. She walked me through. She gave me an informational session on the phone. It was so helpful. Made me feel like I really was on the right track. I needed reassurance. I felt alone and lost. The night before my husband met you I was up crying. What are we going to do next year? I don’t want him separated from the typically developed kids. The system was failing him and I felt like I was failing him as well because I didn’t know what to do. The situation he was in was detrimental. He was in a classroom with kids with extreme behaviors and he was picking up some of the behaviors. I didn’t know how to advocate for him. Rondi helped me. At our last ARD meeting [last year] it turns out I didn't even know why I was there. I misinterpreted the language. It was extended school year services and I thought it meant extending the school year. They didn't explain what the services were so I wasn't aware they were talking about summer school. Though they were talking about speech therapy or OT. [At our meeting with Rondi] I feel like there was more dialogue. It seemed to be more open. A lot more communication and a lot more questions were asked. We really wanted to dig deep and make sure we were doing the right thing. I’m just trying to figure things out. How did it feel having support? It was a huge relief. I felt a weight taken off my shoulders, connected. I didn’t feel like an outsider anymore. She just made me feel like I wasn't the only one going through this. That’s what I needed the most out of anything. How has it been going since we concluded? They implemented daily communication sheets. That wasn’t being done last year. I get a report every day and it’s something I have to seek out. We have a plan in place to deal with the behavior issues he was dealing with . It has opened communication and also I've been able to reach out to Rondi about a few other things that have happened since for general support and to make sure we're on the right path. It’s a support system that’s not available anywhere else. It bridges the gap between the parent and the school system. We are so grateful. I can’t even express it in words.
