  • ARD Advocacy

    Discover free, expert special education advocacy to support your child's needs. Our special education advocacy guides families through the ARD process. Special Education Advocacy Could my child have a learning disability or special need? At an ARD (Admission, Review, and Dismissal), teachers, administrators, and other staff members meet to determine a student's eligibility for the special education program because of a special need or a learning disability. Our special education Advocates are professionals who support the family and provide guidance throughout the ARD process. Advocates work with the family and collaborate with the school to identify the needs of the student, develop academic and/or behavioral goals , and recommend services and accommodations the school can provide to help meet those goals. They serve alongside the parents and other stakeholders as members of the ARD team to help develop the IEP. Please note: ARD Advocates are not attorneys and do not provide legal advice. ARD Advocacy is provided free to families that qualify for Medicaid . Applicants are not required to receive Medicaid.     Board of Directors member Kirstin Ivy-Waybourne Our Board Kirstin Ivy-Waybourne Kirstin Ivy is presently serving as a high school English teacher in Keller ISD. Previously, Kirstin was a middle school special education teacher and then a dyslexia specialist. She earned a B.A. in English, graduating summa cum laude. In 2019 and 2020, Kirstin earned master’s degrees in Educational Leadership and Curriculum & Instruction from the University of North Texas, both with a 4.0 average. She is pursuing her third master’s degree in Nonprofit Administration, this time from Louisiana State University in Shreveport. While not teaching or attending school, Kirstin continues the work in development that she began while spending a year outside of the classroom working for nonprofit organizations in north Dallas. Since her return to the classroom, Kirstin’s passion for providing equitable access to education has amplified, as has her understanding of how assiduously stressors outside of school impact and compromise students’ ability to learn. She believes that empowering students through comprehensive support, employing restorative practices, and establishing a campus culture of belonging are cornerstones to achieving lasting success. Kirstin began her work in the volunteer sector in 2006 when she began working with an international mission partnership in Honduras that was founded on building committed and responsive relationships, which is a central tenet of her work today. Board service is an extraordinary volunteer opportunity for an individual who is passionate about Noggin Educational Foundation's mission and who has a track record of leadership. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in business, education, philanthropy, finance, marketing, or the nonprofit sector. The Board will support the work of Noggin Educational Foundation and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Noggin's CEO, the Board-CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board as needed is both critical and expected. Ideal candidates will have: Experience with leadership accomplishments in business, education, philanthropy, finance, marketing, or the nonprofit sector.
